The Miami Marine Stadium was completed in 1963. It served as a venue for powerboat races, concerts and sporting events. It was frequented by the likes of Sammy Davis Jr and Richard Nixon. In the wake of hurricane Andrew it was condemed in 1992. It has become a haven for skateboarders and graffiti artists. I was amazed by the artwork contrasted by the garbage. As you walk into this monolith, you are greeted by the smell of fresh spray paint.

The tall ship Elissa is a three-masted barque. She is based in Galveston, Texas, and is one of the oldest ships sailing today. Launched in 1877, she is now a museum ship at the Texas Seaport Museum. She was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990.

The name of this lighthouse is derived from the language of the Native Americans who lived on Nantucket, the Wampanoags. Their word “sankoty” means highland, and even erosion hasn’t changed the appropriateness of that name. The brick-and-granite structure sits 70 feet tall on the bluff at the end of what is now Baxter Road in Siasconset, flashing its white light every 7.5 seconds.The stalwart lighthouse was built in 1850, and has not been replaced. Upon a 1990 inspection of the structure, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wrongly predicted that it would fall off a nearby sea cliff within 10 years. Nonetheless, in 2007 the lighthouse was very meticulously moved 400 feet back from the cliff’s edge. In 1987, it was tucked in right next to its counterpart in The National Register of Historic Places, even though it still functions as a navigational device.

For many, the stainless steel Cloud Gate sculpture is a work of art, but for tourists, it’s the best opportunity for a selfie. The public artwork – also known as “the Bean” – has become a must-see item on any Chicago itinerary. The sculpture, by British artist Sir Anish Kapoor, was unveiled at the opening of Millennium Park in 2004. It now serves as a famous symbol of the city and is one of Chicago’s most photographed attractions.
